1. Who can use Penelope

You need to be at least 16. If you’re using Penelope for a studio, school, or production company, you’re confirming you’re allowed to agree to these terms for them.

2. Your account

You sign in with your Apple ID, so keep it secure. You’re responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else got in, tell us at info@penelopeacting.com.

Free allowances, like free AI voice lines and script imports, are a one-time gift per person. Deleting your account and starting over doesn’t reset them. We may set reasonable limits on any feature and adjust them over time.

3. Your work is yours

You own everything you make in Penelope: your scenes, recordings, self tapes, and profile. We claim no ownership of any of it.

To run Penelope, you give us permission to store, process, and display your work as needed to provide and improve the app. For example, we use it to voice your scene partner’s lines, to split an imported script into lines, or to show your profile to the people you choose. We never sell your work, use it to train AI, or publish it beyond what you choose to share.

When someone shares a scene with you, it stays under their control. If they stop sharing or remove you, the app removes that copy from your phone, including any edits you made.

Shared scenes are encrypted with keys kept on your devices and in your iCloud Keychain, so we can’t read them. If you lose those keys, we can’t restore your access, and the owner may need to share the scene with you again.

4. Copyright and your scripts

You’re responsible for the scripts you use. By using a script in Penelope, you confirm you have the right to use it that way, and you accept all responsibility if you don’t, including any claims from the people who own it. Penelope is a rehearsal tool; it doesn’t give you any right to perform, copy, or share someone else’s work.

If you’re under NDA, share a script only with a reader you’re allowed to share it with, and use sides someone shares with you only for that session.

If you think something on Penelope infringes your copyright, our Copyright page explains how to tell us. In appropriate cases, we close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe.

5. AI features

Script import is for scripts. Please don’t import personal, confidential, or sensitive documents.

AI voices are synthetic. You can’t use them to pretend to be, or mislead people about, a real person. The reader and speech recognition are good but not perfect, so always check against your sides. We may change the providers and technology behind these features at any time.

6. Reading with other actors

Treat your scene partners the way you’d want a reader to treat you: be kind, professional, and on time. No harassment, hateful content, or pressure. Only record when your scene partner agrees. Recording laws differ from place to place, and you’re responsible for following the ones that apply to you and your partner.

Ratings and feedback you give must be honest and your own. You agree not to bring claims against us over ratings or feedback other actors give you.

You can block and report anyone. We may remove profiles, content, or accounts whenever we think it’s needed to keep Penelope safe.

7. Things you can’t do

  • Copy, reverse engineer, or scrape Penelope.
  • Upload anything harmful, like malware.
  • Use Penelope to break copyright or anyone else’s rights.
  • Use generated audio to deceive, harass, or defame anyone.
  • Resell access to Penelope without our written permission.

8. Free and Pro

Line memorization with your own recordings is free, and everyone gets some free AI voice lines, hands-free “Line” calls, and script imports to try.

Pro is a subscription you buy through the App Store that unlocks AI voice lines, hands-free “Line” calls, and script imports for your own rehearsal; we may slow down or pause automated or abusive use. It renews automatically until you cancel, which you can do anytime in your Apple account settings at least 24 hours before it renews. You’ll always see the price before you buy. If a price changes, Apple will tell you first and, where required, ask you to agree.

Pro · Single Day is a one-time purchase that unlocks the same features for 24 hours from purchase and does not renew. Apple handles billing and refunds under its own terms; you can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Your use of the iOS app is also covered by Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. We may change, add, or retire features and plans over time.

9. Penelope’s name and design

Penelope’s name, logo, design, and software belong to Penelope Acting, LLC. Apart from your own work, these terms don’t give you ownership of anything. If you send us ideas or feedback, we can use them without owing you anything.

10. The fine print

Penelope is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We work hard to make it great, but we can’t promise it will always be perfect, available, or right for your purpose.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we’re not responsible for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total responsibility to you is limited to the greater of $50 or what you paid for Pro through the App Store in the 12 months before the claim. Any claim must be brought within one year of when it arose. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they apply only as far as the law there permits.

If someone brings a claim against us because of content you uploaded or shared, or because of how you used Penelope, you’ll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it.

These terms are governed by California law, and any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in California.

11. Saying goodbye

You can stop using Penelope and delete your account anytime (Settings → Account & billing → Delete account). Deleting your account also erases your Penelope scenes and self tapes from that phone, so save anything you want to keep first. If you have Pro, cancel it separately in your Apple settings.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or that we believe is putting Penelope or other people at risk. The parts that should naturally last after that, like ownership, the fine print, and limits on responsibility, still apply.

12. Changes and contact

We may update these terms. We’ll post the new version here with its date and, for big changes, try to let you know in the app or by email. Using Penelope after an update means you accept it. Questions? Write to info@penelopeacting.com.
